What is required from a person opting to enter the DUI diversion program?
In order to successfully complete diversion, a defendant must do each of the following within one year:
- Undergo an alcohol / drug evaluation to determine whether or not you have an alcohol or drug problem;
- Complete whatever course of treatment is deemed necessary by the evaluation (this can take anywhere from 4 months to one year. The length varies depending on the treatment recommended.);
- Attend a victim's impact panel class;
- Pay fees, assessments, and other costs to the court, to the evaluator, and to the treatment provider;
- Not drive a motor vehicle while using or under the influence of an intoxicant for one year.
